Check out Papa Roach at the PPL Center in Allentown, PA on Friday, September 19th!
One of the most electrifying rap rock bands to come out of the 90’s, Papa Roach was formed in 1993 in Vacaville, California. Currently, the band consists of founding members vocalist Jacoby Shaddix and guitarist Jerry Horton, as well as bassist Tobin Esperance and drummer Tony Palermo. Formed while its members were in high school, the group played every show they could before releasing their first EP
Potatoes for Christmas (1994) and the demo
Caca Bonita (1995).
By the time Papa Roach released their debut album
Old Friends from Young Years in 1997, they were touring with some of the 90’s biggest names like Incubus, Static-X, and Powerman 5000. Following two more EPs in
5 Tracks Deep (1998) and
Let ‘Em Know (1999), the band reached a record deal with DreamWorks Records. Upon signing with the label, Papa Roach quickly began working on their first major-label album.
Infest would be released in the Spring of 2000, selling over 30,000 copies in its first week. The album would go on to be Papa Roach’s best-selling album, being certified triple platinum by the RIAA, and peaking at number 5 on the Billboard 200 chart due to the extreme success of the first single “Last Resort”. The video for “Last Resort” earned them a nomination for “Best New Artist in a Video” at the 2000 MTV VMAs, as well as a spot on the Vans Warped Tour, Ozzfest and the first two rounds of the Anger Management Tour.
Papa Roach continued their string of successful releases, with their next albums
Lovehatetragedy (2002) and
Getting Away with Murder (2004) both reaching RIAA certification, with the former being certified gold and the latter earning platinum. The first two singles from
Getting Away with Murder, the title track and “Scars”, are two of the band’s biggest hits from this era, continuing to appear in the band’s live shows even today. The success continued into
The Paramour Sessions in 2006, with “…To Be Loved” also being played live often, and “Forever” doing very well on the charts.
They have continued to be extremely successful, releasing another six albums in
Metamorphosis (2009),
The Connection (2012),
F.E.A.R. (2015),
Crooked Teeth (2017),
Who Do You Trust? (2019), and their most recent release
Ego Trip (2022). Papa Roach has continued to sway back and forth between their rap and rock styles, with
Ego Trip showing off near-pure rap songs like “Swerve” (ft Jason Aalon Butler from Fever 333 and Sueco), as well as rockers like “Cut the Line”, and even their massive ballad in “Leave a Light On (Talk Away the Dark”.
Now, Papa Roach is tapping fellow rock titans in Rise Against, as well as post-hardcore legends Underøath, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of both
Infest and Rise Against as a band on the cross country “Rise of the Roach” tour.
