Check out Pixies and Modest Mouse at Forest Hills Stadium on Saturday, June 15th!

Formed in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts, The Pixies have been Alternative Rock stalwarts since their inception. Playing bar shows in the Boston area, the band was noticed by producer Gary Smith, which led to the band’s first demo, which had 8 songs that would be released on the debut release Come On Pilgrim, and 9 songs that would go on to be released as Pixies but referred to as Puprle Tape by the fans. Come On Pilgrim was not originally distributed in the US outside of any international record trading but would go on to be included in a package deal with the band’s first full-length album, 1988’s Surfer Rosa.

This is the album that set The Pixies up for their constant success, getting 5-star or 10/10 reviews from almost every outlet including Pitchfork and Rolling Stone, and going on to being regarded as one of the best albums of the 1980’s. The album is also regarded as an inspiration for the likes of Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan. The Pixie’s second album Doolittle was released in 1989 to even more commercial success. The band would go on to release Bossanova (1990) and Trompe le Monde (1991) before breaking up in 1993. The Pixies reunited in 2004 and has enjoyed continual success, releasing Indie Cindy (2014), Head Carrier (2016), Beneath the Eyrie (2019), and Doggerel (2022).

Formed in Issaquah, Washington in 1993, Modest Mouse released its first EP called Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect in 1994. Following this EP was the group’s debut album This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, as well as the EP Interstate 8 in 1996, which was quickly followed by 1997’s The Lonesome Crowded West.

The Lonesome Crowded West is considered the group’s big break, as it gained the group a cult-like following and considered one of the best albums of Indie Rock from the 90’s. Since then, the group has steadily grown in popularity releasing a total of 7 studio albums, the most recent being 2021’s The Golden Casket, had their songs featured in commercials, and even had songs on the Guitar Hero, Rock Band and other video game soundtracks.
