Sebastian Maniscalco is an American stand-up comedian who rose to prominence in the mid-2000s with his stand-up shows that were featured on Comedy Central Presents. Born to Italian immigrant parents, Maniscalco has made a name for himself with his “nostalgia” humor, playing off many of his own personal family experiences growing up. He also uses his “Can you believe this?” humor, in which he provides commentary during his stories of people’s outlandish behavior. Sebastian grew up in Illinois before moving out to California to begin his career in comedy. Performing shows in 2005 at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood eventually got him recognized and on Comedy Central, performing half-hour shows before he would eventually get his own hour-long specials. Maniscalco also appeared as a comedian on several late-night shows in the late 2000s before getting his first comedy special titled Sebastian Live in 2009. Since then, he has gone on to release five more comedy specials, including What’s Wrong with People?, Why Would You Do That?, and Aren’t You Embarrassed? Many of his specials can be found streaming online. Maniscalco has also had a successful career in the film industry as an actor in films. He has been in family films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and even more serious roles like “’Crazy’ Joe Gallo” in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman. Recently, Maniscalco released the 2023 movie, About My Father, where he stars as himself chronicling his relationship with his father, played by Robert De Niro. Sebastian Maniscalco credits his influences as comedic legends like Jerry Seinfeld, George Carlin, Bill Burr, and John Ritter, among countless others. Maniscalco’s nearly 20-year long career has been full of ups and downs, but he credits his persistence and presence to what connected him with these comedic legends and brought him into the spotlight.
