Check out Stryper at the Starland Ballroom on Friday, November 8th! The band will be performing not one, but TWO sets of hits and fan favorites to celebrate 40 years of Stryper!

One of the biggest Christian heavy metal bands in the world, Stryper has quickly gained momentum in the mainstream music world. The band formed in 1983 with Michael Sweet as the lead vocalist and guitarist, Robert Sweet on drums, guitarist Oz Fox, and Perry Richardson on bass who joined the band many years later. Stryper wanted to take their inspiration from Van Halen and find a way to combine that music with Christianity. The group signed with Enigma Records at the time and released their first EP, The Yellow and Black Attack, in 1984. The album featured songs such as “Loud ‘N’ Clear,” “From Wrong to Right,” and “You Know What to Do.” The Yellow and Black Attack also made it to the U.S. Billboard 200 and Billboard’s U.S. Christian albums charts. During this time, Stryper was able to gain some traction as they were opening for bands such as Bon Jovi and Ratt. One year later in 1985, their first full-length album was released titled Soldiers Under Command. This album made history as the first ever Christian metal album to earn a gold record. Soldiers Under Command sold over half of a million copies and featured songs such as “Soldiers Under Command,” “Makes Me Wanna Sing,” and “Reach Out.” Their third release, To Hell with the Devil (1986), was their biggest success yet. Not only did it sell over two million copies, stay in the top charts for Billboard albums for three months, and receive a Grammy nomination, but, Stryper made history again. This album was the first Christian metal album to ever go platinum. To Hell with the Devil included some of their most popular songs of all time like “Honestly,” “To Hell with the Devil,” “Rockin’ the World,” and “More Than a Man.” Between the years of 1988 and 2020, Stryper released ten more albums, not including their latest album The Final Battle, which was released in 2022.
