WHY I'M WALKING:
I knew of a few families growing up that had been impacted by suicide. As I’ve gotten older a couple friends have come to me and opened up about thoughts of harming themselves or taking their lives. I thought of the family members left behind that were broken because of their own pain and loss and I didn’t want the same results for my dear friends.
What did I do when I was told this by my friends? I hugged them and told them I loved them. Then immediately gave them some numbers they thankfully called to speak with someone to help them through the anguish they were going through.
That’s why I walk. To spread the message that if you are having suicidal thoughts, you are absolutely NOT alone. Not by a longshot. There are people all around you that can empathize with you and that want to help you.
We have a chance to put an end to suicide. I think about how precious life is and would never want anyone to think about cutting theirs short. And so, I’m grateful to the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention. This organization matters. This walk matters. You matter. Let’s shine a light on mental health together!
