Bon Jovi Fans with me back in the day at WDHA!

80’s Covers! We love them. 80’s Hair Metal, 80’s Pop, 80’s New Wave. What a great, fun time for music!

It’s Terrie Carr and this week the WDHA Coffee Break celebrates 80’s tunes, performed by some of today’s favorite rock artists. On this list, are modern-day rock legends, metal, and a music queen- all celebrating the decade that was known for music videos, glitz, and volume.

What Makes The 80s So Popular?

Come On! WDHA listeners love the 1980s! When I’m taking suggestions for the Friday All Request Lunch Hour theme, the 80s always ranks as the most popular era with WDHA fans.

Fun times, few rules, and very visual, the 80’s had it all. I often say 80’s Hair Metal was “Pop Music With Lots Of Loud Guitar Solos”; I stick by that! (and don’t forget the hairspray)

This list of cool covers rocks. With some of my favorite current-based bands carrying the 80’s torch. I especially LOVE the Billy Idol cover, which carries perfectly into the year 2024, without losing a beat.

Most of the bands on this list will be touring this summer too! Halestorm headlines WDHA’s Rock The Park 2024- July 26th at The PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel – Grab your tickets now!

5 Awesome 80’s Covers From Today’s Rockers

  • 1. Foo Fighters- Kids In America (Kim Wilde)

I loved this song when it came out and remember being a teen, dancing around my house at the Jersey Shore to the original Kim Wilde version. So excited the Foo Fighters didn’t forget it!

  • 2.Seether- Careless Whisper (Wham)

Am I a George Michaels/Wham fan? You bet I am! I love pop music.
Careless Whisper reminds me of my youth and the Seether guitar on this one rules.

  • 3. Halestorm - Still Of The Night (Whitesnake)

Only the QUEEN of rock – Lzzy Hale can attempt one of the greatest vocalists in rock- David Coverdale on a “Whitesnake” classic.
Halestorm covers it on their “Reanimate 3.0′ collection and it’s quite epic.

  • 4. Incubus- Let's Go Crazy (Prince)

Let me start by saying- I am the biggest PRINCE fan ever. I have seen him countless times and did not know this cover ever existed until an awesome radio brother – Wes Styles – A rock programmer in Bloomington, Indiana sent it to me (thanks Wes!! we rock programmers stick together ) it is a KILLER cover!
Please Incubus, play this when you come to see us at Madison Square Garden in August.

  • 5. Black Veil Brides- Rebel Yell

Love me some Andy Black, so talented and such a good guy. This cover is fantastic and goes way back for the band.
So well done, heavy and bringing the goth vibe of the song to a new generation.
