Prelude To A Cure

Cancer affects each and every one of us.

Here at WDHA, it hit really close to home when we lost Curtis Kay to lung cancer in June 2020.

Prelude to a Cure presents “Rock out Lung Cancer 2024,” a gala to raise funds for lung cancer research, on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at the Taverna On The Green in Paramus, NJ. The featured band will be the Earthgrinders, playing a tasteful trip through rock’s vintage sounds. Also appearing will be crooner Tommy Scala, Newark, New Jersey’s singing police officer. There will be lots of raffle items to win, a delicious buffet and heartfelt words from a local lung cancer survivor.

Prelude to a Cure is a non-profit organization founded by West Caldwell resident, Claire Mattern. Claire’s family was riddled with cancer. Her father battled and survived colon cancer, then prostate cancer, which ultimately took his life. Claire’s maternal aunt survived three primary cancers, two of them being lung cancer, and one being breast cancer. Her most devastating loss came when her sister, Linda, lost her fight with cancer at 28 years old. Claire herself is a cancer survivor.

“I realized through all of this pain and loss that I had a choice to be a victim or to do something to help find a cure. Maybe this was my purpose. My whole family was musical, so I decided to start a nonprofit charity to mix music and cancer research,” explains Mattern.

Prelude To A Cure’s past events have included local actors Vincent Pastore from “The Sopranos”, actress Sean Young from “No Way Out”, actor Lou Vanaria from “A Bronx Tale” and actor Michael O’Leary from “The Guiding Light”, all who have supported lung cancer research through these events.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center’s lung cancer program. “Everyone really comes together to help us raise money for lung cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Cancer Center, where my sister, Linda, was treated.”

The event starts at 2:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $50 in advance at www.preludetoacure.org, or $60 at the door.

Rock N Ruff

Yorkies! (Yorkshire Terriers) In A Local Rescue Group

It's Terrie Carr, and welcome to another WDHA Rock N' Ruff segment. Let me start this one by saying I love Yorkshire Terriers- I have been blessed to have 4 in my life since childhood. Muffy, Sabrina, Scarlet (the love of my life), and Star.

They are sweet, spunky, loyal, smart little companions each unique in every way. When I found out that a lovely family was up for adoption, I wanted them on Rock N' Ruff. You can find every kind of dog with your local shelter groups. Large, medium, small, super small, puppy, teen, senior, energetic, , fellow, special needs, purebred, muttigree, they are all there.

And Their Beautiful Mama

Molly and the foster mom of the family Viviana brought the family by for a visit and some WDHA Rock N' Ruff exposure. The family is just perfect. Friendly, sweet, and mama is so lovely, greeting everyone she meets, giving kisses, and affection, and showing her smarts and loyalty with the great care she takes care of her family of four.   Due to their extremely small size, we are looking for just the right home for mama and the pups, tiny dog experience is a plus and of course, if you are interested keep in mind that puppies need time and care. If you are interested in mama or her babies, please reach out to Cameron Animal Hospital Rescue at - CAHADOPTIONS@GMAIL.COM
