Loving PB&J’s and just taking a spoon to a jar of peanut butter, I was excited when I heard today is National Peanut Butter Lovers Day!

There’s so much you could put Peanut Butter On. There are also so many variations of Peanut Butter Sandwiches that you can try as well. The fine folks at Delishably have crafted a list of 15 Weird Peanut Butter Sandwich Combinations.

Check out the full list here. We’ll take a closer look at 5 of the strangest ones………Maybe your new favorite sandwich is waiting!

1. Peanut Butter and Pickles

It looks like pickles are competing with jelly to see who can be PB's best friend. The secret to a successful sandwich is to pile a layer of dill pickles over crunchy peanut butter (crunchy is best) and then top with a few sweet pickles.

2. Peanut Butter and Potato Chip Sandwich

If you like that crunch in your sandwich, you’re not alone.  Chips are almost as popular as pickles when it comes to adding something new to a peanut butter sandwich. Some of the most common chips include:

  • Sour cream and onion
  • Plain potato chips
  • Tortilla chips

3. Not Your Mama's Grilled Cheese!

Grilled cheese sandwiches are almost as popular as peanut butter sandwiches. A good reason to combine the two? Possibly. Take two peanut-buttered slices of bread, adds two pieces of Swiss cheese between them, and then saute them in real butter in a skillet.

4. Peanut Butter and Cucumber

Would you ever think of putting fresh cucumber on your PB sandwich?

You can try crunchy peanut butter and salted cucumbers. Or maybe cucumbers,  creamy peanut butter, and mayo. There’s also a technique of using slightly unripe cucumbers and a slice of tomato.

5. Peanut Butter Onion Surprise

For this sandwich, start with two pieces of oat bread. In a bowl, mix peanut butter, finely chopped sweet onions, and golden raisins.

You can omit the raisins, but according to the recipe creator- "They give the sandwich an element of surprise."
