Jersey Magazine with Jim Monaghan

There are some changes coming to the New Jersey Home Improvement Contractor Law in March of 2025 that could ultimately affect you.

Dave Muti is the owner of 101 Mobility here in New Jersey. He joined Jim Monaghan on Jersey Magazine to talk about what homeowners need to be aware of with regard to these changes.

Additionally, as we deal with an aging population (whether ourselves or perhaps our parents), Dave outlined ways in which we can safeguard our homes.

  • NJ's Monarch Family Associates Receives $1.25 Million Grant From Bezos Day 1 Families Fund

Taiisa Kelly is the CEO of Cranford-based Monarch Family Associates. She joined Jim Monaghan on Jersey Magazine to talk about the $1.25 million grant that MFA just received from the Bezos Day 1 Families Fund.

Family homelessness in the U.S. rose dramatically from 2022 to 2023, and families now represent more than 28 percent of the country’s homeless population, according to a 2024 report from the National Alliance to End Homelessness. With its one-time Day 1 Families Fund grant, Monarch will work to reverse this national trend by serving families experiencing homelessness throughout the state of New Jersey.

Specifically, Monarch Housing Associates plans to use its funds to support implementation of a statewide Strategic Plan to End Family Homelessness. The Day 1 Families Fund investment will be used to expand on the success of Rapid Rehousing to ensure more families can access this critical support to regain housing stability. Funding will also be used to develop regional hubs which will support families in navigating the services and benefits available to help them maintain stability in housing.

Foster To Adopt – I’ve done it twice (both failed, both adopted by me lol) – It’s Terrie Carr and the importance of fostering shelter animals is HUGE. What does fostering do? It helps shelter animals learn how to live in a home environment, and get out of the shelter which can be loud and scary, and gives us a fantastic insight into their behaviors OUT OF THE SHELTER- In the video below, my friend and Shelter Manager at Randolph Regional Animal Shelter in Mendham discusses their highly successful “Foster To Adopt” program and how it’s helped both animals and humans to find their perfect match.

Sunny Discusses “Foster To Adopt” with me

How Do I Know If An Animal Is A Good Match For Me?

There are many things to consider. If you are out of the house most of the day, a puppy (no matter how cute) is not the best match. If you love to run, a dog with a high energy level and a love of the outdoors is way better. Do you love to be on the couch? Perhaps a senior or lower-energy pet is best. And of course when you fall in love with a particular shelter resident, and the connection is real, your new best friend may have been found! It’s always a good experience to work with a shelter partner like Sunny, who can provide information and support, especially for first-time adopters.

Also, your existing pet is a huge consideration as well. Rosie is the boss of my home and if someone else comes in and she doesn’t; get along with them, she gets her way. Sometimes being a good match for your dog or cat is more important than being a good match for you! Adding a new best friend is a big decision and not one to be taken lightly, and working with a great local shelter group can be a wonderful experience. Thanks for the info, Sunny! Check out the amazing CHER this week too, who stopped by with Sunny and is available to foster and adopt at the shelter on this week’s “Merry Pitmas” Rock N’ Ruff” feature- (she’s featured in the foster-to-adopt piece too, such a good, well-behaved girl)
