This review is all about Avenged Sevenfold ‘Life Is But A Dream…’ Avenged Sevenfold is a metal band, but not necessarily a metal album. If you’re scratching your head, let me explain.
Now maybe you’re saying “ok, well their last release in 2016, ‘The Stage’ was kind of a journey into brand new territory for the band.” But why did I say this isn’t necessarily a metal album?
Mainly because it contains everything, so it makes it very difficult to place it inside just one box. But I can say that it has a very progressive rock structure to it and has so many layers it textures, it will leave you baffled, but curious enough to put it on again.
It starts with a song that’s a little closer to what A7X does. It’s set up as a beautiful ballad but then is broken up by powerful up-tempo metal with aggressive vocals by frontman M. Shadows.
Although, that’s really the most familiar part of the record. If you take the journey of listening from start to finish, you’ll stumble upon auto-tuned vocals, hip-hop drum beats, Frank Zappa-esque proggy jazz breaks, and even a piano ballad.
It fits in not one box but really makes you wonder what’s coming next from track to track. And I think that’s so cool in a day and age where so many bands just put out the same record over and over.
Let’s take a look at some cool moments from the record.
