TC here and this week’s WDHA Coffee Break theme celebrates the decade of grunge, alt-rock, and angst- The 1990’s!
It’s hard to believe the ’90s rock revolution started over 30 years ago and gave us some of the greatest anthems, rock stars, and performances.

While there are countless ’90s covers, I decided to grab a list that not only focused on the heavy grunge sound of the decade but also the talent and unique charisma of some of the artists that are covered.

The Pretty Reckless, Sevendust, Five Finger Death Punch, and more are featured on the list and when you listen to the WDHA Coffee Break this week, I’ll rock a few “away” from this list to focus on the amount of killer covers that are out there.

Love the bands of today? Well, they LOVED the bands of the 1990s and this week, we salute both.
Bands that inspired and bands that are inspiring. Gotta love it.

Have a WDHA Coffee Break theme you would like me to feature? Feel free to hit me up anytime at [email protected] with your suggestions and as always – thanks for rocking your workday with me!

Enjoy some of these fantastic performances……

  • Sevendust- The Day I Tried To Live (Soundgraden)

Sevendust nails this amazing tune from one of the most iconic bands of the 1990s. Lajon captures the vibe and energy of this 90’s classic that you can find on the band’s 2020 Blood and Stone release. One of the GREAT rock bands of all time covering one of the great rock tunes of all time.

  • Halestorm- Hunger Strike- (Temple Of The Dog)

From the band’s ReAniMate covers collection – Lzzy adds a beautiful vocal performance to this amazing 1990s duet from Vedder and Cornell. Lzzy and the band have performed it live with Corey Taylor in concert as well giving the song a whole new dimension.

  • Five Finger Death Punch- Blue On Black (Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band)

With help from Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Brian May and Brantley Gilbert on the recording with FFDP, this mega-popular 1990’s tune helped reinvent the young guitar player on the airwaves with the incredible talent of a teenage Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Blue On Black was released in 1997 and is still one of rock radio’s most popular 90’s songs.  The band (especially Ivan) KILLS it on this cover.

  • Smith & Myers- Black (Pearl Jam)

Brent Smith and Zach Myers from Shinedown have an amazing side project and their cover tunes dazzle.

Their EP’s are absolutely amazing and feature covers from so many artists including REM, Adele, Metallica and more. Tackling this important Pearl Jam song was a big undertaking and Brent and Zach are mesmerizing in their performance. One of my favorites.

  • The Pretty Reckless- Champagne Supernova (Oasis)

Taylor Momsen is a brilliant vocalist and she shows her many vocal layers on this cover of the 1995 Oasis tune. Effortless and ethereal, this song is so incredibly unique and this one wows me.
The Pretty Reckless pull off amazing covers and I suggest you check out their “Other Worlds” collection for some of their incredible work.
