Robert Trujillo Of Metallica hanging with Terrie Carr at a New Jersey Metallica show! WDHA welcomes the band home this weekend

WDHA welcomes METALLICA 72 Tour HOME TO NEW JERSEY! With two monster sold out shows at Met Life Stadium tonight (Friday) and Sunday!

Get in early to check out some old-school metal. Prong plays in Lot G at 3 p.m. Friday, and Overkill at the same place at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Attendees need a ticket to see the pre-show parking lot performance.
The ties with Metallica and their fans stretches far and wide in our great state as the band was signed here and started here honing their craft and becoming the masters of Thrash and Metal in Jersey!

Before becoming the biggest band in the world the guys had humble New Jersey roots being signed to Megaforce Records which was run at the Route 18 Flea Market in East Brunswick New Jersey at a booth called Rock And Roll Heaven.
I remember seeing them at clubs and at the time (I’ll be honest) I could have never imagined the scope of what the band would accomplish on rock music.

No rules, no excuses, no boundaries, the band has been knocking our heads off since 1981!
WDHA will be at Met Life tonight and Sunday- Look for us on Inner Loop Road between the Met Life Gate and The Verizon Gate.

Lots open at 1p, Gates at 4:30p, Music starts at 6p.

Opening bands are –
Friday Mammoth WVH and Pantera
Sunday- Ice Nine Kills and Five Finger Death Punch

Set times tonight are approximate- Mammoth WVH- 6p, Pantera 6:55p, Metallica- 8:30p

Here are 5 New Jersey connections to the BIGGEST band in the land!
See ya this weekend Metal Fans!

  • Metallica Came To New Jersey To Get A Record Deal

Metallica recorded their first record “Kill Em’ All” for Megaforce records which was run by two legends.
The late Jon Zazula and his wife Marsha Zazula. Jon and Marsha (legend has it Marsha was the bigger fan) noticed the band after their demo “No Life Til’ Leather” was received by Jon.

“Kill Em’ All” was recorded on a low budget of 15k and has gone on to sell millions.
Who would have thought this would all happen at the Rt. 18 Flea Market in East Brunswick NJ? Holy —t!

  • They Started Out Playing New Jersey Clubs

Metallica invented the Thrash Metal genre and brought the bang to New Jersey playing small rooms like The Showplace (up the road) from WDHA in Dover and the space that is now the Starland Ballroom on Jernee Mill Road in Sayreville.

  • Father Zakk Wylde Is On The Opening Band Roster

    Zakk

Zakk Wylde WAAAAY back with TC

    Zakk

Zakk Wylde with TC and Matt

    TC loves Zakk

We LOVE Zakk and as the best friend of Dimebag Darrell Abbott from Pantera, Zakk is not only paying tribute to his friend, but has said he is there to honor the legacy of the metal masters- Pantera.
Zakk’s New Jersey roots are DEEP- Born in Bayonne and raised in Jackson, his New Jersey rock legacy dates back to his days in the clubs with Zyris! (And we adore him at WDHA….he is family)

  • Their New Jersey Homecoming Is Bittersweet As Both Jon and Marsha Zazula Have Passed Away

From the flea market to headlining Met Life for two nights- talk about coming home.
Unfortunately the music world lost both Jon and Marsha Zazula – Marsha in 2021 of Cancer and Jon in 2022 of pulmonary disease.

  • WDHA Was The First Station In New Jersey To Play Metallica On Our Then "Metal Mania" Show

Hosted by The High Priestess – Cheryl Richardt- WDHA played Metallica before anyone with Metal Mania on the Rock Of (then) NORTH Jersey!
