Here Is What You Need To Know About Atrial Fibrillation

September is Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month and this morning on Jersey Magazine, Jim Monaghan speaks with Dr. Jen Caudle, a board-certified Family Medicine physician here in New Jersey.

Atrial Fibrilation, or AFib, is an irregular and often very rapid heart rate. As many as 1 in 4 adults over the age of 40 may have AFIB without knowing it.

AFib is missed 93% of the time due to its irregular nature. Many AFib patients are asymptomatic and It’s extremely important to catch early, as those with AFib are also 5x more likely to have a stroke.

It’s important to know what the warning signs are and how to best deal with the symptoms, should that be necessary.

  • American Lung Association Celebrates 10 Years of Hope With LUNG FORCE Walk New Jersey

    This year, the American Lung Association in New Jersey is celebrating 10 years of the LUNG FORCE Walk in New Jersey and the incredible impact the event has had on the local community, survivors and families. This year, the LUNG FORCE Walk will take place at Duke Island Park on Saturday, September 14 starting at 9:30 AM with a fundraising goal of $135,000.

    Gabby Grimaldi is the Development Manager for the American Lung Association and she joined Jim Monaghan on Jersey Magazine to talk about this year’s event.

    Lung Force Walk New Jersey

    The LUNG FORCE Walk is a celebratory and welcoming event that provides critical funds for lifesaving lung cancer research, early detection initiatives and awareness. For the event, participants will walk 2 miles at Duke Island Park on September 14.

    The year 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the Lung Association’s movement to defeat lung cancer—LUNG FORCE. Through education, advocacy and research, LUNG FORCE is working to ensure that fewer people are diagnosed and those living with the disease live longer. In 2024, the American Lung Association is also celebrating 120 years of impact, since the organization’s founding in 1904.

    Rock N’ Ruff is back with another amazing pup from Northstar Pet Rescue – (one of my favorite rescue groups to work with) HERMEY! It’s Terrie Carr, DHA Top Dog and puppy lover- Now, let me tell you about this amazing little guy, who is a perfect Chihuahua. If you like the Chi’s (but think they are a little loud and bossy….) Hermey is perfection.

    A young dog, Hermey is sweet, very gentle, and shy and loves the company of other dogs. He must go to a home with a doggie buddy to show him the ropes and help him build his confidence. Hermey is in a foster home and comes to life when he plays with the dogs at home, running, playing, and having a ball. And did I mention, he is gorgeous?

    Hermey also requires some patience to bring him out of his shell. He is very reserved and will need some time to settle in, but he is a very gentle soul.

    Hermey would make a fantastic family member.  Gentle, sweet, loyal, and loving. What could be better? I’m so amazed he has been with Northstar since the spring and has not found his family yet! He’s such a good boy!

    • If you love cars and are looking for a great day of family fun, then head to Hillsdale today for their collectible car fare for kids. It’s like walking your child through a field of driving dreams. There will be over 25 cars representing 11 decades of motor vehicle history. The event takes place at the Hillsdale Public Library from 10 AM to 2 PM today and is free.
    • And enjoy a day out for the St. Anne’s Food Festival in Woodland Park. The event runs today from 11 AM to 6 PM. And there’ll be delicious homemade food, games, and raffles. The event takes place at St. Anne’s Church on Rifle Camp Road in Woodland Park.
