Sid Haig, Actor In Rob Zombie’s Films, Dies
Sid Haig, an actor who appeared in Rob Zombie’s House of 1,000 Corpses and the sequel The Devil’s Rejects, as well as Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown and Kill Bill Vol. 2 died over the weekend, according to a post on his instagram account written by his wife, Susan L. Oberg. He was 80.
She wrote, “My light, my heart, my true love, my King, the other half of my soul, Sidney, passed from this realm on to the next. He has returned to the Universe, a shining star in her heavens. He was my angel, my husband, my best friend and always will be… He adored his family, his friends and his fans,” she wrote.
“This came as a shock to all of us. We, as a family, are asking that our privacy and time to mourn be respected.”
According to IMDB, Haig has been acting since the 1960s, appearing in television shows including Batman, Star Trek, Get Smart, Mission Impossible and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. His first film appearance was in 1967’s Spider Baby, Or The Maddest Story Ever Told, and he went on to appear in Coffy, Foxy Brown and George Lucas’s THX1138
Rob Zombie apparently planed to use Haig in third film in his trilogy: 3 From Hell is the conclusion to the story from House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects. But Zombie told Entertainment Weekly that heath issues prevented Haig from being available.
“Three weeks out from shooting, I got a call from Sid Haig. He had been in the hospital, and he had just had surgery, and he was now recovering in a rehabilitation facility. I’m like, holy s—, this is a serious business. So, I went to see him, and he had changed drastically from the last time I saw him. Because Sid, he’s big and burly, and now he’s tiny as a skeleton. So, I was like, oh man. I kind of realized, yeah, he’s in rough shape.” He noted that he was able to shoot with Haig for one day. “I got him in, I shot everything I could shoot.”
In his own post, Zombie wrote, “Horray for Captain Spaulding,” a reference to Haig’s character in Zombie’s films. “Gone but not forgotten.” He also added a photo of their first meeting, which he said mostly likely was in 1999 or 2000.
