So Far, 72 NFL Players Have Tested Positive For COVID-19

The NFL season is scheduled to begin in less than a month, but there are still concerns over the coronavirus pandemic and player's safety. Adding to the stress is the fact that the NFL Players Association has recently revealed that 72 players have tested positive for COVID-19.

Per the New York Post, 72 was the count as of July 10, and more recent numbers haven't been released. They add that they are unclear on how many players were tested out of the roughly 2,800 in the league.

There have been negotiations between the league and players association surrounding the start of training camp and how the league will operate. For now, most teams plan on starting camp on July 28.

To keep players informed, the NFLPA has launched a database about the virus. In it, the website breaks down 14-day averages of daily cases per 100,000 people in each city with an NFL team.

The New York Post adds that multiple players have warned that they won't play if they don't feel safe with the league's safety protocols. Union representative and Giants offensive tackle Nate Solder recently tweeted out, "If the NFL doesn't do their part to keep players healthy there is no football in 2020. It's that simple."
