New Details Surface After Toddler Left In Shopping Cart At A Massachusetts Target
Over the weekend, we reported a toddler was found in a Target parking lot in Massachusetts — Still buckled in a shopping cart.
Now, new details have surfaced in the case.
In case you didn’t see the initial story, here’s what happened:
Police were dispatched to the Target on Robert Drive on Saturday, amid reports of an unattended child.
When they arrived, they found a 17-month-old boy still in the shopping cart outside the store.
He was not injured during the ordeal.
Police say the child was shopping at the store with his mother and three of her friends.
After authorities received a phone call regarding a child left at Target, they interviewed his mom.
According to the woman, 27, the child was accidentally left in the cart while she drove off in her car. The woman’s friends reportedly left the store in their own vehicle.
WCVB is reporting that the child’s mother assumed one of her friends had placed the child in his car seat before they left the parking lot.
Therefore, she didn’t notice he wasn’t in her vehicle until she arrived at her next destination.
While accidents happen, it’s always best to never assume anything and to double check where your children are at all times.
Had the woman checked her child’s rear-facing car seat before she left the parking lot, undoubtedly, this incident never would have happened.
