Woman Gets Jail Time After Opening Food Before Paying
If you’re a parent, chances are you’ve opened food for your child while shopping before.
Or, sometimes, while walking through the aisles at the grocery store, something will cross your eye that you have to take a bite of before checking out.
No big deal, right? After all, you are going to pay for it.
Normally, we would agree with you, however, a new story out of Ireland has us questioning this practice.
According to the Daily Mail, Kathleen McDonagh received jail time after opening a can of Pringles inside a store.
At the time, the pregnant woman was shopping at her local Tesco. It’s important to know that there is a backstory to this incident though.
The woman had previously been banned from the location due to previous incidents.
It’s not clear if the woman had stolen from the store before, but what is evident is that she was not welcome there.
An employee had asked the woman to leave, which is when she opened the Pringles and declared since the item was open, they would have to let her pay for it.
She was arrested, and was found guilty of criminal damage, because the item was open and could not be resold.
The offense came with a two month jail sentence.
While the sentencing undoubtedly factored in her prior offenses, this case might make you rethink opening anything before you pay for the item.
