See Gov’t Mule at the Beacon Theater on Sunday, December 30th and Monday, December 31st!
Gov’t Mule was created in Georgia in 1994 by members of the Allman Brothers Band as a spinoff. They play mostly southern rock and blues. Warren Haynes and Allen Woody were recruited to the Allman Brothers Band when the band was reforming in the late 1980s. Haynes and Woody collaborated with Matt Abts to create the spinoff band Gov’t Mule when the Allman Brothers weren’t performing. They had the inspiration of becoming a power trio band. Eventually Haynes and Woody left the Allman Brothers Band altogether to put all their focus into Gov’t Mule. Gov’t Mule has released nine studio albums since their self-titled debut album in 1995. The band went on to release two more albums, Dose and Life Before Insanity, before one of the founding members Allen Woody tragically passed away in 2000, just months after the release of the third album. Eventually, more band members were recruited including Danny Louis on keyboard, guitar and trumpet, Andy Hess on bass, Jorgen Carlsson on bass, and Kevin Scott on bass. Current members of the band include Haynes, Abts, Louis, and Scott. Some of the bands best songs include “Thorazine Shuffle,” “Soulshine,” and “Broke Down on the Brazos.” The most recent album by Gov’t Mule is Peace…Like a River, released in June, 2023. This album has had international success, charting in several European countries such as Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Scotland. Now, just over two years after the completion of their “Dark Side of the Mule” tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon (1973), the band is back to celebrate their own milestone of 30 years together.Get The WDHA Setlist Newsletter Delivered To Your Inbox
