John Michael “Ozzy” Osbourne is one of the most legendary singers of all time. Originally the singer for Black Sabbath, Ozzy has become known for his extensive solo career and legendary on stage performances. Ozzy became the singer for Black Sabbath when he was only 20 years old and proceeded to stay with the band for over a decade. Black Sabbath’s debut album “Black Sabbath” is often cited as the first true heavy metal record. The innovative guitar riffs, dark themes, and unique vocals have lead to Black Sabbath influencing almost every modern day heavy metal band. Prominent groups who claim to be influenced by Ozzy and Black Sabbath include Metallica, Guns ‘n’ Roses, and Judas Priest.
After his departure from Black Sabbath Ozzy’s solo careers saw him release 13 albums since 1980. Most recently Patient Number 9 which came out in 2022. Ozzy’s list of accolades goes on seemingly forever. He is in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the UK Music Hall of Fame. He has three Grammy awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and over a dozen certified platinum records. The “Prince of Darkness” has sold over 100 million records globally between his work in Black Sabbath and his solo career.
Ozzy has also made a name for himself beyond music, becoming an unforgettable figure in pop culture for decades. The Osbournes, which aired on MTV from 2002-2005 brought Ozzy into fan’s homes like never before and truly solidified “Ozzy Osbourne” as a household name for years to come.
Despite experiencing health issues Ozzy continues to create new music and look to the future. In 2019 he collaborated with rapper Post Malone on Take What You Want. Although Ozzy’s touring days may be over, he has not ruled out one off shows and has already confirmed that he will be releasing a new album 2024.
