Ann Bartow DeVisme purchase the home (The Hermitage) in 1767. During the Revolutionary War, The Hermitage welcomed guests such as George Washington and his troops. Visitors over the years say they have encountered ghostly presences on the property. It is now said to be one of the top 10 haunted houses in the United States. Today the museum holds a collection of costumes and accessories from the 1700s through the end of the Victorian era.
