The Golden Girls premiered in 1985. Ever since, they’ve been part of the pop culture lexicon and have become beloved by multiple generations, especially in recent years.

The Golden Girls ran for seven seasons and 180 episodes. During its run, the series won 11 Primetime Emmy Awards, including two wins for Outstanding Comedy Series in 1986 and 1987. Each cast member also won an Emmy for their performance on the show. Betty White won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1986. Rue McClanahan won the Emmy in the same category in 1987. Estelle Getty won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1988. That same year, Bea Arthur won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

Fun fact: The Golden Girls is one of four sitcoms in television history where the entire main cast all won Emmys for their performance. The other three shows are All in the FamilyWill & Grace and Schitt’s Creek.
