Big Winners From Record Store Day 2018
Record Store Day 2018 might be in the rearview, but that doesn’t mean we can’t also celebrate the success it was for independent music shops across the country.
All of the stats and figures are in, and per Billboard, a whopping 733,000 vinyl albums were sold during the week encompassing RSD, and it now is the largest vinyl sales week in RSD history. Perhaps the most staggering figure of them all was that 25 percent of all albums sold during that week came from independent record shops.
As for the RSD titles themselves, Bruce Springsteen’s special pressing of his Greatest Hits LP topped the list of exclusive LP titles followed by David Bowie’s Welcome to the Blackout (Live London ’78), Neil Young’s Roxy: Tonight’s the Night Live, Rage Against the Machine’s Live at the Democratic National Convention 2000 and Bob Dylan & The Grateful Dead’s Dylan & The Dead. The best selling exclusive single was Led Zeppelin’s “Friends/Rock and Roll” followed by Bowie’s “Let’s Dance (Full Length Demo),” Sufjan Stevens’ “Mystery of Love,” The Notorious B.I.G.’s “Juicy” and U2’s “Lights of Home.”
