Dirty Honey’s ‘When I’m Gone’ and 5 Other Rock Songs that were WWE PPV Themes
Dirty Honey has made headlines this week for being the first unsigned act to top the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart with their single “When I’m Gone.”
In addition to the support it received from rock radio, “When I’m Gone” got a huge boost in exposure thanks to the WWE who used the track as the theme song to their July 14 PPV Extreme Rules. “When I’m Gone” was not only featured during the PPV broadcast but was utilized in various promos on WWE’s weekly programming (Monday Night Raw and Smackdown) leading up to Extreme Rules.
WWE has a track record for using rock songs as the themes to their various PPVs and have often used music from emerging artists. Who else has gotten a boost from WWE? Check out the songs below to see a just a small selection.
Dorothy – “Wicked Ones”
In addition to being used as the theme for 2015’s TLC, “Wicked Ones” was also used in ads for Gatorade and Levi’s.
The Struts – “Could Have Been Me”
“Could Have Been Me” was used as the theme for NXT: Takeover London in 2015. The Struts would be utilized again by WWE in 2018 when they used “Body Talks” as the theme for TLC.
Dead Posey – “Don’t Stop The Devil”
Emerging artist Dead Posey got some major exposure when the single “Don’t Stop The Devil” was used as the theme for 2019’s Elimination Chamber. The band has since gone on to make the rounds at some major rock festivals, with their appearance at Louder Than Life being the most recent.
Halestorm – “Uncomfortable”
The lead single from Halestorm’s 2018 album Vicious was used as the theme for 2018’s NXT: Takeover Chicago II. Lzzy Hale has since appeared during PPVs, including playing Ember Moon’s entrance music live at 2018’s NXT TakeOver: New Orleans and with Nita Strauss during 2018’s WWE Evolution, the WWE’s first all-women PPV.
Asking Alexandria – “Into The Fire”
Asking Alexandria’s heavy “Into The Fire” served as the theme of 2018’s NXT: Takeover Philadelphia.
