Ryan Reynolds Humorously Asks Young Canadians to Not Kill His Mom, Take COVID Seriously
Ryan Reynolds has asked young Canadians in his home province of British Columbia to stop partying so much and to take the coronavirus seriously, because…well…he doesn’t want his mom to die.
Reynolds was asked by BC Premier John Horgan in a recent press conference to help spread the message to younger residents that the threat of COVID-19 is very serious.
The actor responded by “leaving a message” for Premier Horgan at his office and then shared said message via Twitter. While acknowledging that people probably don’t want to hear medical advice from him (unless it’s plastic surgery, to which he says, “Not a lot of people know this, but I used to be Hugh Jackman.”), he does make one bold attempt at appealing to younger Canadians.
Reynolds says, “You young folks in BC: Yeah, they’re partying, which is, of course, dangerous, and they probably don’t know that thousands of young people aren’t just getting sick from coronavirus, that they’re also dying from it too…My mom, I mean, she doesn’t want to be cooped in her apartment all day; she wants to be out there cruising Kitsilano Beach, looking for some young 30-something Abercrombie burnout to go full Mrs. Robinson on. She is insatiable.”
Reynold continues, “But here’s the thing. I hope that young people in BC don’t kill my mom, frankly, or [environmental scientist, BC resident] David Suzuki, or each other. Let’s not kill anyone. I think that’s reasonable. I don’t think I’m the guy to deliver this message. I love parties. My favorite thing to do is sit alone in my room with a glass of gin and the first 32 seasons of ‘Gossip Girl.’ Now that’s a party! Threw my shoulder out the last time I did that.”
