Rock Hall 2021: 5 Moments That Hopefully Make the HBO Broadcast

The 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony took place last month, but it was filmed to air on HBO and HBO Max on November 20 at 8 PM ET.

There’s one problem, though; the entire ceremony was around four-and-a-half hours, but the broadcast is only three hours long.

The night was packed with amazing moments one after another, but alas, the editors at HBO have figured out how to cut around 90 minutes from the full induction.

Knowing that some parts of the induction ceremony will be left on the cutting room floor, here are five moments that hopefully make the broadcast.

• LL Cool J’s Entire Performance

  LL's entire induction was dominated by surprises, including being inducted by Dr. Dre, but his powerful performance, which featured surprise guests Eminem and Jenifer Lopez, was an incredible moment that will go down in Rock Hall history.

• Foo Fighters Jam with Sir Paul

  Paul McCartney did the honors of inducting the Foo Fighters into the Rock Hall, and once the band was done with their set and speeches, they performed a one-song encore of The Beatles' "Get Back" and were joined by Macca.

• Clarence Avant’s Entire Induction

  Clarence Avant, who's known as the Godfather of Black Music, was the recipient of the Ahmet Ertegun Award for his remarkable contributions to the music industry. Avant was inducted by Lionel Richie, who delivered a poignant and funny speech about a man who is one of the biggest trailblazers in music. Avant was visibly moved by the moment and gave an equally emotional and bold speech. Considering his impact, he deserves his much-earned time in the sun, if only for more people to learn about his accomplishments.
• Carole King’s Performance

  Traditionally, each Rock Hall inductee is allowed a three-song set. For Carole King's induction, which opened the ceremony, Taylor Swift sang the Shirelles' "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?"(a song that was co-written by King), Jennifer Hudson performed "(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman" and King, herself, sat down at a piano and performed "You've Got a Friend." During her performance, King instructed the crowd to sing along to the final chorus in a chill-inducing moment that led to a standing ovation.

• JAY-Z’s Star-Studded Hype Video

  Video packages featuring various artists and celebrities talking about inductees isn't uncommon during the Rock Hall ceremony, but never has there been such a star-studded video quite like the one for JAY-Z. The video featured some of the biggest names in entertainment reciting some of his most iconic rhymes. Among the people in the video were his wife Beyonce, Common, Diddy, Regina King, Halle Berry, Questlove, Jamie Foxx, Alicia Keys, Usher, Rihanna, Pharrell, Samuel L. Jackson, Queen Latifah, Ed Sheeran, Chris Rock, Lin Manuel Miranda, Lebron James, David Letterman, Lena Waithe, Lenny Kravitz, Kevin Hart and others. Doing the honor of bringing the video to a close was his daughter, Blue Ivy.
