Tom Hanks on the Amazon Series Reboot of ‘A League of Their Own’
Tom Hanks touched on the new A League of Their Own reboot series on Amazon Prime during a recently red-carpet event for the premiere of the new adaptation of Pinocchio.
Hanks, of course, played Rockford Peaches coach Jimmy Dugan in the acclaimed 1992 film which also starred Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell. The film and the new series differ significantly due to the series exploring far more social issues via black and LGBTQ+ characters.
“I’m really glad it’s here because they can touch on some of the social things that were bypassed by the original. That’s where we are now,” Hanks said to The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s no reason not to get into the other aspects of who people love and why they play the game and stuff like that as well.”
Hanks did joke about the idea of there being something he was in being rebooted commenting, “It’s kind of odd to realize — is that how old I am now? They’re now making better versions of things that I made back in 1990-something?”
Rita Wilson, who was accompanying Hanks on the red carpet, chimed in by saying, “You’re not old, honey. Maybe they’ll make better versions of us too one day.” Hanks replied, “Wouldn’t that be great? So, who is Timothée Chalamet going to marry?”
As of publishing, the A League of Their Own Series has yet to be renewed for a second season.
