John Travolta Stars in Capital One Ad as Tony Manero-Inspired Santa
John Travolta stars in a new ad for Capital One where he channels the iconic character of Tony Manero from Saturday Night Fever. However, it comes with a holiday twist.
The 60-second spot opens with “Stayin’ Alive” by the Bee Gees playing while Travolta as Santa struts down the street carrying a paint can. (Because, obviously.) Santa’s getup definitely has more flash, especially with the gold “St. Nick” medallion around his neck. We see him buy some cookies, a cool new pair of shoes (from Donna Pescow, no less) and a disco ball tree ornament. Of course, he bought all these things with his Capital One Quicksilver card. (Once again, because obviously.)
After some additional Santa magic, we see our Manero Santa get a glass of milk at a dance club before cuttin’ a rug.
The commercial is captioned on YouTube with, “You can tell by the way Santa uses his walk he earns 1.5% cash back on every purchase with the Capital One Quicksilver card.”
Travolta, himself, shared the ad on Instagram. He captioned the clip, “Sleighin’ alive this season with Quicksilver from @CapitalOne. Santa’s back with more moves than ever.”

Saturday Night Fever was released in December 1977. The film elevated Travolta to superstar status. It also earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role. (He lost to Richard Dreyfuss for his performance in The Goodbye Girl.) Saturday Night Fever was added to the United States National Film Registry in 2010. Films are selected by the Library of Congress. Additions to the registry are selected for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
The film, of course, boasts one of the most iconic film soundtracks of all time. Featuring six songs from the Bee Gees, the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack has sold over 40 million copies worldwide.
