Richard Simmons Issues Statement on Biopic Starring Pauly Shore
Richard Simmons has issued a statement about Pauly Shore starring in a short film as himself and the potential of a feature-length biopic.
The fitness icon wrote via his verified Facebook page, “Hi Everybody! You may have heard they may be doing a movie about me with Pauly Shore. I have never given my permission for this movie. So don’t believe everything you read. I no longer have a manager, and I no longer have a publicist. I just try to live a quiet life and be peaceful. Thank you for all your love and support. Richard.”
Hours later, Simmons followed up that statement with, “Hello. I have received quite a few media inquiries about the authenticity of my post. I have not had a manager or publicist for years. If there are any more media inquiries, please email them through the contact page on my website at RichardSimmons.com.”
As previously reported, Shore is starring in a new short film as Simmons. The film, called The Court Jester, is set to make its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 19.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Shore explains the plot centers around Simmons appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in the early 2000s and interacting with “a bumbling kind of PA on the set, and he’s a little bit overweight and he’s kind of getting in the way of everyone.”
Simmons declined to be involved in the making of The Court Jester. However, Shore said he’s hopeful that the dynamic fitness personality could get involved if this short film leads to the making of a feature film.
“Richard Simmons was a very, very, very special man, and he had a huge message,” said Shore. “And I think that message now is even bigger than it was back then.”
