Stone Pony, Bruce Springsteen Launch Charity Shirt for Venue’s 50th Anniversary
Asbury Park’s Stone Pony and The Boss have released a charity shirt to celebrate Stone Pony’s 50th anniversary! The money raised from T-shirt sales will go to Community Karma and the Mercy Center.
The shirt was released on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3. Fans can purchase these shirts in three ways: online, at the famous New Jersey club, or at the Asbury Park Holiday Bazaar through Dec 22.
Artist Kelsey McCann created a new take on DJ Lee Mrowicki’s original design. Each shirt, made in America, features the venue’s logo on the front, with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band running down the left sleeve. The back shows Dancing in the “Park” in bold letters.
The release celebrates 50 years since Stone Pony opened its doors in February ’74. Springsteen still remembers where he came from — he’s played countless shows at the venue and most recently showed up for a surprise performance during the Sea Hear Now festival.
Sales will help two local organizations and showcase the venue’s long-standing mix of music and giving back. The Mercy Center on Springwood Avenue runs a food bank and helps educate young women. Community Karma uses the music venue to collect toys during their annual drive, getting new unwrapped presents for kids in the area.
“We picked those two because they focus on the kids, and to me, the future of Asbury Park is based on the kids who are going to be making a difference,” said Caroline O’Toole, Stone Pony’s general manager.
Since opening in ’74, this stage has helped launch many musicians to fame. Now turning 50, the club is bringing together its musical history and community spirit with this special shirt.
