Saliva’s Wayne Swinny, Bobby Amaru on Josey Scott Returning to the Band
Saliva made some headlines in the rock world yesterday (October 28) when former lead singer Josey Scott said he was reuniting with the band for a new album and tour after exiting in 2011.
Lead guitarist Wayne Swinny and current singer Bobby Amaru talked about the news on Talkin’ Rock with Meltdown, where Swinny said, “We’ve actually we’ve been chatting back and forth for a few months now. As soon as we start talking, I sat down with Bobby and said, ‘Look, man, there’s a possibility we’re going to do this. I don’t know when, and I don’t know the timeline.’ Before any of this even came up, [Bobby] was like,’If y’all are gonna do some reunion stuff [in honor of 2001’s ‘Every Six Seconds’], you know, it’s totally cool. No sweat.’ So literally, maybe a month or two after that, [Josey and I] started kind of talking back and forth. So, it’ll probably be later on in 2020. The first record came out in 2001. So the initial talks were, ‘Let’s do a 20 year reunion thing,’ which would be not 2020, but 2o21.”
Swinny continued, “…We started talking and everybody’s excited. Josey’s is excited. I’m excited. Families are excited…Josey couldn’t hold it in anymore, man. I don’t blame him. It’s been a long time, and I know he’s looking forward to not just dipping his toe in. I think he wants to jump in the deep off of the high dive. Everybody’s together on this. We honestly never knew if it was going to happen after Josey left the band. We’ve been on great terms…We’ve all been in touch through the years. We’ve talked about it enough, and I guess Josey is finally at a spot where he’s ready to do it.”
As for how long Scott will be back, Swinny said, “There’s nothing on paper. I don’t know how long Josey wants to come back [and] if he wants to come back for good or if it’s going to be for a reunion CD and a reunion tour, and then he’s done. It’s all preliminary and barely been discussed at this point.”
While Scott being back in Saliva may not be permanent, it still means Amaru, who’s been fronting the band since Scott’s exit in 2011, will be stepping down. Despite this news, Amaru remained positive and said, “I’m excited for it. I think it’s going to be killer. I think it’s going to be awesome. Everyone I’ve met and shared with, it’s been great. It’s been an honor. I just keep it humble and just stay grateful for the opportunity to be in it today. It’s definitely good.”
Swinny added, showing his appreciation for Amaru, “That’s why I love this guy so much. He’s humble, coming in and done all the work, plus some with taking care tour managing, booking flights, all that stuff. I’m so fortunate to be in a band with him. But everyone’s excited about the reunion news. You know, we’ll keep everyone posted.”
