Chuck D, B-Real Speak On Rage Against The Machine Reunion
Yesterday (November 1) there was a lot of reporting on the news that Rage Against The Machine would be reuniting for shows in 2020… although no official, verified outlets announced the news, and the band members didn’t comment. The Rage Against The Machine twitter account (@RATM) tweeted “Yes… it’s true… 2020” and while that account is unverified, it’s largely believed to be approved of by the members of the band and it is believed to at least sometimes speak on their behalf.
But two members of Prophets of Rage seem to confirm that Rage Against The Machine is indeed returning, spelling the end of Prophets of Rage. Prophets formed in 2016 and included Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, along with Public Enemy’s Chuck D and DJ Lord and Cypress Hill’s B-Real. That band played mostly Rage Against The Machine songs, with Chuck D and B-Real taking on RATM’s lyrics, origianally performed by Zack de la Rocha.
Chuck D tweeted a few hours ago, referring to Prophets in the past tense, saying, “It was about doing something greater than self… keeping the Zack de la Rocha spot warm for Rage Against The Machine.” He called it “a honorable truth mission in the hours of chaos… and so the bands rock on… let’s go” taggging the official accounts of Cypress Hill, Public Enemy and Prophets Of Rage.

Meanwhile, B-Real referenced the return of Rage Against The Machine on his Instagram account, saying “I want to say thank you to the fans that supported @prophetsofrage for the time we’ve been rocking together. It’s been an honor to rock stages and people of all ages with these guys. It’s been a great time and great memories in a short time. Rockin along side of Chuck and Tom has been amazing to say the least. It was fun while it lasted and I hope we left a big impression and that the music has been a source of inspiration for those that needed it. That was the purpose we got together. So I say to y’all stay informed, stay engaged and fight the good fight.”

Today (November 2) is the 20th anniversary of Rage Against The Machine’s final album of original material, 1999’s The Battle of Los Angeles (they released a covers album, Renegades, the following year). Perhaps today, the band may mention something to mark the date and their future. Rage Against The Machine band broke up in 2000, reunited for a few shows in the subsequent years, but have not played together since 2011.
