OTD: Pearl Jam covered Bruce Springsteen in New Jersey
Hello Pearl Jam fans –
17 years ago on July 14th, 2003 a CLASSIC Pearl Jam show happened right here at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey. This was an “add-on” show to the super popular/super sold out 2003 “Riot Act World Tour”. It was also the LAST show of the US tour and the hype was real! Eddie Vedder surprised the early crowd with a solo rendition of the b-side “Dead Man” before opening act, Sleater Kinney.
The real surprise happened during the encore when Pearl Jam covered Bruce Springsteen’s “Growin’ Up” off of “Greetings From Asbury Park, N.J.” According to pearljam.com (and they should know), this was the one and only time Pearl Jam covered “Growin’ Up”. The show was later released on CD as part of Pearl Jam’s bootleg series. Check out a video of “Dead Man” and the set list below.
