Ted Nugent Calls the NRA ‘The Most Important Civil Rights Organization In The World’
Ted Nugent, in the wake of New York Attorney General Letitia James filing a lawsuit to dissolve the non-profit, has taken a firm stance in defense of the National Rifle Association (NRA) calling it “the most important civil rights organization in the world.”
Nugent appeared on “The Chris Salcedo Show” and said (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), “Well, number one, what is more important in the American Dream right now than the God-given individual right to keep and bear arms to defend yourself from these recidivistic street thugs. So, number one job in America is being a member of the National Rifle Association. It’s the most important civil rights organization in the world.”
Nugent continued, “What other rights can you possibly hang on to if you don’t have the right to defend yourself? Especially when these leftist freaks are engineering recidivism — they’re letting the worst dangerous violent criminals out into the streets and then attempting to limit the availability of self-defense tools. I mean, this wouldn’t make a ‘Twilight Zone’ script.
Nugent added, “All I can tell you is the NRA is more important now than ever. And when you look at the background of this monster, this traitor in New York — the attorney general, and the mayor, and the governor — they’re out to destroy individual freedoms. And who’s the biggest fighter for individual freedoms? The National Rifle Association. That’s all you need to know.”
According to NPR, AG James’ lawsuit came following an 18-month investigation that “…found financial misconduct in the millions of dollars and that it contributed to a loss of more than $64 million over a three-year period.”
In a statement on the lawsuit, AG James said, “The NRA’s influence has been so powerful that the organization went unchecked for decades while top executives funneled millions into their own pockets. The NRA is fraught with fraud and abuse, which is why, today, we seek to dissolve the NRA, because no organization is above the law.”
Four of the NRA’s current and former executives that were named in the lawsuit include Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, general counsel John Frazer, former Chief Financial Officer Woody Phillips and former chief of staff Joshua Powell.
The NRA responded in a statement saying the lawsuit was “…a baseless premeditated attack on our organization and the Second Amendment freedoms it fights to defend… we not only will not shrink from this fight – we will confront it and prevail.”
