Green Day Tease New Music from Secret Side Project
It appears that Green Day – or a group of clever imposters – have more new music for us following the release of their 13th studio album Father of All… earlier this year.
There have been several offshoots of the band over the years, but a lesser-known side project is The Network. They put out their only studio album, Money Money 2020, back in 2003. Now that 2020 has wreaked havoc, the “anonymous” group has reappeared with a new video and press release.
The clip shows a group of five, their faces obscured by masks, rocking a new-wave stomp that’s cut with footage of lascivious behavior and nuclear explosions. Hear a portion of the song in the video below.
The video’s caption claims, “The Network were formed in the year 2003, fulfilling an ancient prophecy predicting that we, its chosen members, would issue a stern warning to mankind in the form of music… Rapidly achieving fame and fortune, we had often been mistaken as the planets greatest rock ‘n’ roll band Green Day. This earthly comparison is almost as comical as the humans that inhabit this dying planet!”
The cryptic message, which you can read in full on the group’s newly created Instagram, also notes: “The release of ‘Money Money 2020 Part II’ will serve as the final lesson! Within the binary codes of this album exist the keys to our past, present, and future DNA! The Gods are laughing & it’s up to you to prove them wrong… You’re welcome… The Network.”
There’s no word yet on when this second album will be released. The Network has “denounced” Green Day in the past, so we’ll see if the band has anything to say about this on their official social media accounts.
