The Light of Day WinterFest 2024 shows kicked off this weekend and LOD president Joe D’Urso is a VERY busy man right now running from show to show.

As in past years, all performances and events go toward raising money and awareness for its continuing battle to defeat Parkinson’s disease and its related illnesses ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) and PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) within our lifetime.

Tony Pallagrosi is the Executive Director of the Light of Day Foundation; he and local NJ music legend Glenn Burtnick joined us last week heading into the 2024 shows.

This morning, Joe D’Urso talks about the shows upcoming this week and beyond.

Light of Day 2024 Details

Venues hosting LOD WinterFest 2024 shows include Asbury Park’s Stone Pony, Wonder Bar, Asbury Lanes, Clinch Transparent Gallery, Asbury Hotel, McLoone’s Supper Club, Watermark, Silverball Museum, Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel, Low Dive, RBar, The Break, and Capitoline; Deal’s Axelrod Performing Arts Center; Red Bank’s Count Basie Center; Outpost In The Burbs in Montclair; City Winery in Manhattan; and Penguin Rep Theatre in Stony Point, NY.

Over 24 years, Light of Day has utilized the awesome power of music to raise approximately $6.5 Million to combat Parkinson’s disease, ALS, and PSP. Light of Day has grown from a one-day event into a multi-day festival in the metropolitan area.

More significantly, Light of Day has expanded into an internationally recognized tour, through a true grassroots effort of musicians, music fans, and benefactors.

Light of Day shows have taken place around the world on three continents, with shows in Canada, England, Wales, Ireland, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Spain and Australia.

Portions of the proceeds from each show are donated to a local Parkinson’s organization.

Light of Day Ticket Information

Tickets can be purchased for all shows individually, including Bob’s Birthday Bash (events in Deal, Montclair, and New York City) are not included in any of the All-Access packages.

  • Former MLB Manager Clint Hurdle On the 2024 One Word Challenge

Clint Hurdle is a former Major League Baseball player, coach, and manager who took the Colorado Rockies to the World Series in 2007.

Now a special assistant to the General Manager (“Sometimes I’m more special than others,” Clint jokes) for the Rockies, Clint is one of the most positive people on the planet.

A few years ago, Clint sent out an email that spoke of New Year’s Resolutions and the One Word Challenge. The idea is that instead of setting lofty goals that sound great (lose weight, work out every day, etc.) but are almost impossible to execute, pick one word as a kind of year-long mantra.

I have a terrible time staying focused. Doing the Morning Jolt, that’s not always a bad thing because things are always fluid.

There’s this song to talk about, and Florida Man’s daily antics, and then there are traffic reports to get to, plus sports.

I don’t HAVE to focus on just one thing. In fact, I can’t focus on just one thing.

    At home?

It’s a completely different story. The list of projects that often take forever to finish because I’m onto the next one would make for a nice mid-size novel.

So in 2022, I decided to use the word “focus” for my One Word.

    Did it work?

Sort of. But sometimes focusing on the word “focus” was a lot easier said than done.

In 2023, I chose “finish” and I was surprised at just how easy it was to follow that.

So when it came time to pick my 2024 word, I looked for synonyms for “finish” but I was coming up with words like “annihilate.”

But I don’t want to destroy anything…I just want to get things done.

To find out what my 2024 word is, and to find out what Clint’s word is, check out our conversation.

  • Rock N Ruff

    Hi Animal Loving Friends!

Terrie Carr here with this week’s Rock N’ Ruff Rockstar Rescue!  And we are happy to have had a visit once again from our friends at The Gingerbread House Sanctuary and Rescue The Gingerbread House Rescue based out of Northern New Jersey who specialize in tiny dogs, small seniors and really love the Pekinese breed, and our friend Lynn Nixon came prepared with 5 awesome pups that need homes! First up, FRANKLIN a Papillon/Chihuahua mix who is so cute and cuddly!

Franklin is 5 years old and is described by the rescue and his foster as…..

“The sweetest little love bug. Franklin is a Velcro dog that LOVES being with his people. He is a great little companion and enjoys mild walks, sniffing in the yard, lounging around, and giving kisses. Mostly, he just wants to be glued to his people.

He lives with other small breed pups in his foster home and is not interested in them. He is a good eater and goes potty outside. He does know how to use a potty pad if you have them down. He would be ok with teenagers and up no small kids due to his small size”

Franklin would also love being the ONLY dog in the home as he is more bonded with people than dogs and can be a bit bossy with his toys, but this sweet, loving, good boy loves being held and being active and playing. He’s wonderful!

Personally I couldn’t stop cuddling this awesome boy who was so comfortable with me loving him and also loved to run and play at the station! He’s a great little dude!
