These Companies Will Pay You $1,300 To Watch 13 Horror Movies
Spooky season is finally here and those who love horror movies are in for a treat this season: two companies are paying select viewers $1,300 to watch 13 horror movies.
Dish Network said it will pay a viewer $1,300 to watch 13 movies based on Stephen King novels such as Carrie, IT and The Shining. The satellite TV company will also send a “survival kit” including blankets, popcorn, candy and Stephen King items. The only requirement is that viewers must wear a Fitbit, which they will provide, to track their heart rate during the scary films.
The network wants to monitor any jump scares, screams or lack of sleep after watching the films. Participants will be given a worksheet to document their experiences, changes in sleep and comments on just how scary the films were.

In a separate horror movie cash-out opportunity, FinanceBuzz is recruiting a “Horror Movie Heart Rate Analyst.” Their goal is to determine whether a movie’s budget influences its “dread-inducing” factor. As their website points out, “Of all the different types of movies to hit the silver screen, movies of the horror genre are the most profitable, regardless of the budget set to film them.”
The heart rate analyst is also required to wear a Fibit to track their heart rate and rank the movies based on your prediction of the size of their production budgets as they watch a mix of low- and high-budget horror films.
As the press release notes, some of the scariest and most popular horror movies were filed on a tight budget. For example, Paranormal Activity was originally produced with $15,000 in 2007, though another $150,000 was spent in reproduction, the Hollywood Reporter notes; it made more than $193 million.
