Ross Valory: Being In Journey, Collabing With Neal Schon’s Son, & His Long Awaited Solo Release
When I think of Journey and the bass guitar I ONLY think of Ross Valory. A crafter of the early sound, the 80’s sound, and a staple of the band on and off from 1973-2020. Ross Valory IS the bass man of Journey! Now, all these years later, Ross has put out his first-ever solo release “All Of The Above”.
Loved Having Some Time To Chat With Ross About Music and More!
Journey’s First Release
Came out in 1975 and was VERY different than the Steve Perry arena rock band that most remember. Super progressive, with an instrumental flavor, Ross’s bass playing evolved with the band through every incarnation. His solo release – “All Of The Above” comes full circle, with a fusion feel and a beautiful vibe. Ross also recruits Miles Schon the guitar-playing son of his Journey brother Neal Schon who is incredibly cool and drum legend Prairie Prince.
About “All Of The Above”
Ross Valory explains how All Of The Above was decades in the making, and how putting together a release that is not necessarily what people expect out of the gate from him, made it extra special. It’s a labor of love, from an incredibly talented musical visionary that is sure to satisfy instrumentalist rock fans and progressive lovers as well. Having the chance to spend some time with this visionary was such a treat AND Ross was DELIGHTFUL, fun, and cool!
