80’s rock. It conjures up the image of men in leather pants with long hair, wailing on a six-string. Or maybe for you, it brings up new wave rockin’ melodies!

No matter your take on what exactly the sound of rock in the 80s was, we can all admit there were some killer albums! I recently asked DHA Listeners and Jersey responded with what some of the best rock albums of the 80’s are!

The love for 1980s rock music has been handed down for a few generations, and the love for it seems to be brought on by several factors. First, the 1980s was a decade marked by a musical renaissance, with rock music at the forefront of innovation and experimentation. Bands like Guns N’ Roses, AC/DC, and Van Halen, crafted anthems that blended powerful guitar riffs, catchy melodies, and emotional lyrics, leaving their mark on the music landscape.

One reason people love 1980s rock is its ability to evoke nostalgia. For those who grew up during this era, the music serves as a time machine, transporting them back to a period filled with personal memories and various milestones. The iconic fashion, larger-than-life personalities, and the electrifying energy of rock concerts from that era add to the appeal of it.

Plus, the ’80s rock scene kind of had a sense of rebellion and individuality. Many of the songs addressed themes of empowerment, self-expression, and defiance, with listeners seeking an escape from conforming to the norm. This music allowed people to connect with their inner rebel, making it a great soundtrack for those who value freedom and self-discovery.

The technical prowess of ’80s rock musicians is another reason for its lasting popularity. Virtuoso guitar solos, powerful vocal performances, and complex songwriting showcased the immense talent of the era’s artists, drawing admiration from both musicians and fans alike.

Let’s take a look at what Jersey thinks are Some of The Best 80’s Rock Albums. These are ones you can put on from start to finish with no filler!! Below are some of your answers in no particular order.

  • AC/DC - BACK IN BLACK

This is one of those albums where there really aren’t any deep cuts because it’s all so well known. An amazing rock record that brings the fire all the way through!

  • DEF LEPPARD - PYROMANIA

This is the one that really set up the band to blow up the way they did on their follow up Hysteria.  It’s well-crafted and has so many great moments.  Nothing you need to skip!

  • GUNS N" ROSES - APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION

What a debut! Straight out of the gate, GNR shows us what we’re in store for.  Insane guitar solos, wild lyrics and crazy antics from the band members!

  • DEF LEPPARD - HYSTERIA

Yep – they made the list twice!  This one has so many commercially successful singles, it’s almost insane.  What a fun album!

  • VAN HALEN - 5150

Our introduction to what Sammy would sound like with the band.  It’ such a good fit.  This album has so many standout tracks and nothing that feels stale or recycled.

  • MOTLEY CRUE - DR. FEELGOOD

It was the end of the decade and Motley Crue had been putting out solid albums for a while.  But This one is a monster with some truly amazing moments!
