Bill and Melinda Gates Divorcing After 27 Years of Marriage
Bill and Melinda Gates have announced they are getting a divorce after being married for 27 years.
The Microsoft co-founder shared a joint statement from him and Melinda on Twitter announcing the news. The statement reads as follows:
“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
CNBC notes Bill and Melinda founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000. The two met at Microsoft where Melinda was working as a marketing manager.
TMZ, meanwhile, notes the couple’s net worth is estimated at $130 billion. How all of those assets will be divided in the divorce has yet to be divulged. Considering the sheer size of their estate, this will undoubtedly receive a lot of attention in the press.
