E.T. Returns In New Commercial; Fans Go Crazy
Normally, when a beloved character from a long-gone but still-beloved movie series or TV show returns, fans are able to pontificate over whether or not the return is wanted, needed, or a good idea.
So yesterday (November 28), when — without warning or fanfare — Xfinity released a new commercial featuring the return of the title character from the 1982 film E.T.,Ā Ā people were surprised, (mostly) delighted; the commercial features Henry Thomas reprising his role as Elliott and reuniting with his extraterrestrial pal. Of course, fans had feelings about this Ā and many took to Twitter to discuss them.
I am so angry at @xfinity for turning my favorite childhood thing into a commercial and also I love you and I cried so much and I love you Elliot and I'm useless the rest of the day. #ET pic.twitter.com/0LH989RJbU

Did not expect to tear up at an ET themed commercial at 9:30a. Well played Xfinity, well played.

Yeah, boo corporations and all that, but I gotta say that ET Comcast commercial works and it works mostly because Henry Thomas treats it as if it were a real deal sequel. His elation at seeing his old friend again and pride in introducing him to his family is a legit performance.
