Hey Friends!
Terrie Carr here and let’s face it- New Jersey loves Shinedown! As we prepare for their upcoming show this Sunday night at The Prudential Center with Papa Roach and Spiritbox, I remember where I was when I first met the band, how we first heard about the band, and the WDHA history with a band that has grown and evolved as our listeners have.
Back in 2003, my friend Jon from Atlantic Records came to visit and tell me about a new band that the label had signed. “They Are Amazing”- “A Skynyrd vibe, with great songs and a heavy feel like the bands coming out now”.
I heard “Fly From The Inside” and I was HOOKED! He also told me they were incredibly driven, great people, and the first time I met them I could totally tell. Shinedown was a band that instantly connected with our listeners. Everyone wanted to know about them, hear them, and see them live.
My first experience with them was when they came to one of my live broadcasts to play, meet listeners, and eat Barbecue! Me and Matt Murray still talk about it (read about it below!)
Since that day they have also become friends, especially Brent Smith who has never forgotten his early Jersey roots with the fans.
The band has put out seven studio albums, has multi-platinum status, has won countless awards, and has broken the record for the most #1 Singles in the history of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart.
It’s been an amazing journey for sure. I went through some of our WDHA archives (we have pretty deep archives after almost fifty years) and grabbed some fun photo memories from mostly my personal collection (and the station too) to remind us of some of the incredible moments we have shared together with our friends from Jacksonville, Florida.
The band returns to New Jersey Sunday night as part of their “Revolutions Live” Tour- To make new memories with diehard fans and a new generation of fans.
