Brent Smith has been a cherished friend of mine for over 20 years. Over time you get to know someone and understand where they come from. Brent always comes from a place of good. No....I correct that- Brent comes from a place of GREAT.

I first met Brent and the band in the early 2000s when they came with guitars to jam on my show live from "Pops BBQ" in Madison New Jersey. Now, they play the biggest festivals in the world and Brent is the same guy who jammed at Pops before their debut "Leave A Whisper" came out.

I have been involved with the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention for four years and Shinedown has been involved with AFSP for much longer. When I decided to reach out this year and see if the band would help me spread the word about my Essex County walk on October 29th at Verona Park in Verona New Jersey Brent's team (Thank you Adam and Phil!) got back to me in record time with a resounding "Yes....what do you need"?

The band sent the most amazing "Limited Edition Revolutions Live" tour poster signed by each band member, only 150 were produced and NOT for sale! Pretty awesome! AND Brent was so anxious to jump on a Zoom and talk about the band's involvement with AFSP, why they have always been open about mental health and personal challenges, of course, the upcoming WDHA show at Prudential Center on 9/24 and much more - (including the gift of Grandma's Smith's inspiration)

Brent is family and I thank him for his honesty, generosity, and time- (and for such a fun interview hang).

To join the team or donate if you can't walk - AFSP Team Rock N' Ruff- Walk with us on 10/29 and you will qualify for the posters!

Thanks for the time Brent and to our listening family for your support! This interview will make you feel GOOD! It did it for me!

UPDATE 3/4/2022 3:30 PM ET: Shinedown has reclaimed the all-time record for most number one song on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. Scroll through the gallery below to see which tracks have helped the band earn this record.

ORIGINAL STORY
Shinedown was one of the rare artists that actually had a positive 2020. Why? They made Billboard chart history.

In August, the band netted their 16th number one song on the Billboard  Mainstream Rock Songs chart with the single "Atlas Falls." This stand-alone single, which was released to help raise funds for COVID-19 relief, broke the record for most number ones in the chart's nearly 40-year history. (The previous record holder was Three Days Grace, who earned their 15th number one on the chart in September 2018 with "Infra-Red.")

This very impressive record got its start nearly 15 years prior with "Save Me," which was Shinedown's first number one hit on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart back in November 2005.

In a statement on this incredible accomplishment, singer Brent Smith said, "Myself, Barry, Zach and Eric are beyond humbled. 'Atlas Falls' represents so many emotions, especially now. The success of this song would have never been achieved if it wasn't for the audience, the fans, family, the people. A song that was written and recorded eight years ago found its voice in 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic as a symbol of optimism, courage and the human spirit."

Smith added, "I want to personally thank our management In De Goot Entertainment, our label Atlantic Records, our incredible partners at radio and Direct Relief for giving us the inspiration to release the song. We share this No. 1 with the whole world, and we say thank you so very much. 'Don't give up now. There's already so much at stake.'"

In honor of singer Smith's birthday today (January 10), take a trip through Shinedown history by scrolling through the gallery below to see which tracks have helped the band earn the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs number one record.
