Carlos Santana is a rock guitarist best known for creating the band Santana. He developed his musical style while growing up in Mexico and gained fame in the late 60s and early 70s. His music helped pave the way for a fusion of rock and roll mixed with Latin American jazz. This offered a very unique sound at the time by combining blues inspired guitar lines (which is the root of rock and roll) with Latin American and African rhythms.

These rhythms would also be played on traditional Latin percussion instruments such as timbales and congas, which were not found in rock music at that time. Santana’s breakout moment, arguably, was performing at Woodstock prior to the release of their first album. This performance is an iconic moment in rock history and is arguably the first step in Carlos Santana’s lengthy musical career inspiring countless people to pick up a guitar and become musicians. Rolling Stone also ranked him number 20 on their list of the top 100 greatest guitarists of all time in 2015 and number 11 in 2023. He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Counting Crows formed in 1991 in the San Francisco Bay Area. They released their first album in 1993 called “August and Everything After”. This album sold more that 7 million copies nationwide thanks in part to the hit single “Mr. Jones”. The second single off that album called “Round Here” led the band to a Grammy win in 1994 for “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal”. They also won a Grammy that same year for “Best New Artist”.

Their sophomore album entitled “Recovering the Satellites” hit number 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and hit number 1 in several other countries. Since then, Counting Crows have amassed a collection of hit singles and all but one of their albums have achieved a spot on the Top 10 album chart.
