One of the most successful American guitarists of all time, Myles Kennedy, has rocked with some of the biggest names in rock ever. In 1987, he began his music career playing with his band Bittersweet on guitar. Through that band, he made connections that resulted in him getting to play with Amethyst as their lead guitarist for one season. He played with a few bands over the next few years including the Cosmic Dust Fusion Band, which combined jazz and rock music together; and Citizen Swing, with which he played lead guitar and sang lead vocals for in this alternative, soulful, R&B group. Both bands he had played with released a couple of studio-recorded albums over the years.

In 1996, Myles Kennedy started The Mayfield Four with three of his friends and were signed with Epic Records that same year after releasing one of their demos. The band released two albums during their time together: Fallout (1998) and Second Skin (2001). After The Mayfield Four, Kennedy had a reputation for being a strong guitarist and vocalist. He has even been asked by Guns N’ Roses’ guitarist Slash to play in a new band he was trying to form, which he declined. He had other plans in mind for what he wanted to do next.

Alter Bridge was formed in 2003 with Myles Kennedy on lead vocals and rhythm guitar; and former Creed members, Mark Tremonti on lead guitar; Brian Marshall on bass; and Scott Phillips on drums. They released their debut album One Day Remains in 2004, which featured some of Kennedy’s most popular songs including “Metalingus,” “In Loving Memory,” “Open Your Eyes,” and “Broken Wings.” This album was a major success and landed on several charts around the world. Alter Bridge’s next album, Blackbird (2007), was an even bigger success and featured songs such as “Watch Over You” and “Blackbird.” The band released several more albums over their still-going career including AB III (2010), Fortress (2013), The Last Hero (2016), Walk the Sky (2019), and Pawns & Kings (2022).

It was 2009 when Myles Kennedy announced he was going to work on a solo side project, while still working with Alter Bridge. His debut solo album, Year of the Tiger (2018) was an instant success, making its way to over fifteen different top music charts globally. This album featured iconic songs such as “Love Can Only Heal” and “Year of the Tiger.” His second solo album, The Ides of March, was released in 2021, which became another successful classic right away. Songs such as “A Thousand Words,” “Get Along,” “Love Rain Down,” and “In Stride.”

During that time when Kennedy was focusing on his solo albums, he also worked with other artists. He had collaborated with Slash in the past, so it was exciting for their bands to see that Myles Kennedy was working on Slash’s self-titled debut solo album and being featured on his second solo album. In 2010, he went on tour with Slash as the lead vocalist and the supporting act for Ozzy Osbourne’s 2010 tour. Kennedy had also got to play alongside Guns N’ Roses during their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction’s performance in 2012, filling in for Axl Rose who was absent that day. He continued to tour and work with other artists, continuing to build his reputation as any extremely versatile artist who just loves to play music.

Myles Kennedy is a rock legend who left his mark for his solo career and with all the other bands he has worked with throughout the years.
