Listen to Terrie Carr all week from 10am to 3pm for your chance to win a pair of tickets to see Sammy Hagar at the PNC Bank Arts Center on Saturday, July 27th!

Sammy Hagar is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist (among countless other titles) who has led a successful career as a solo artist, as well as a leading artist in a handful of bands. Originally, a member in the band Montrose in the early 70s, Hagar left the band to pursue his solo career early on.

Since his solo career began, he has released 20 studio albums as a solo artist – not including the numerous releases he has done with bands, namely Van Halen. Sammy Hagar joined Van Halen for multiple stints throughout the late 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, replacing lead vocalist David Lee Roth during those times. While in the band, Hagar led Van Halen to multiple No. 1 album releases, singles, a Grammy award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1991, and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2007.

Sammy Hagar has had multiple successes, including the single “Red,” which helped contribute to his nickname, “The Red Rocker.” His performances with a red guitar and red pants, as well as his release of his second solo album (which many call “The Red Album”) contributed to this name that has stuck with him for decades. One of his other hits includes the 1984 song “I Can’t Drive 55,” which lead as a single and part of his eighth studio album. This song was paired with an unforgettable music video and has become a song that every generation can recognize.

The Red Rocker has led many other bands aside from Van Halen, such as HSAS, Los Tres Gusanos, Sammy Hagar & The Warboritas, Planet Us, Chickenfoot, and Sammy Hagar and the Circle. The latter of the six being his newest creation: a supergroup formed in 2014 of previous members of Hagar’s other bands throughout the years.

Currently, Hagar lives a successful life, continuing to tour with his musical groups and being a successful business owner to a handful of restaurants, a bicycle shop in California, and even an alcoholic beverage. His fans, lovingly known as “Redheads” never get enough of Hagar’s high energy performances and still enjoy his new releases, including 2022’s Crazy Times.
