If you are a fan of modern or alternative rock, Cage the Elephant should be familiar in your vocabulary. The Kentucky natives formed in 2006 and moved to England, settling in London before their self-titled album was released in 2008. The band is comprised of six members, including brothers Matt and Brad Shultz, Nick Bockrath, Matthan Minister, Daniel Tichnor, and Jared Champion. The band’s name came from a fan interaction when a man approached Matt Shultz, hugged him, and kept repeating “you have to cage the elephants” over and over.
Cage the Elephant was signed by Relentless Records after performing at SXSW Music Festival in 2007 and released their eponymous album in June of 2008. Cage the Elephant was successful, eventually earning platinum by the RIAA. The album spawned 4 singles, including “In One Ear” and “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked”. Fast Foward 3 albums later, in November 2018 the band released “Ready to Let Go” as the first single of their album Social Cues, followed by three more singles, dropping a track almost once a month. This 2019 album shed some light on the divorce of Brad Shultz and his wife Juliette, with songs such as “Goodbye” and “Love is the Only Way”.
Most recently, Cage the Elephant dropped two singles in preparation for the release of their upcoming album Neon Pill at the beginning of 2024. So far, the band has released the album’s title track “Neon Pill”, and another single titled “Out Loud”. Along with the new album, the band has announced a North American tour starting in Salt Lake City, UT after performing in Bonnaroo, and the Hangout Music Festival.
