If you are a fan of hardcore metal, this band is renowned for their dynamic sound and their intentional lyricism, they have really become a pioneering force in their genre. Underoath is a metalcore and post-metal band that emerged from Tampa, Florida. Though the band has had a few lineup changes—the current roster has 5 members, Aaron Gillespie, Christopher Dudley, Timothy McTague, Grant Brandell, and Spencer Chamberlain.

The band began and was previously known as “Act of Depression” in 1997, but through the band finding their sound and reflecting on the ideas they wanted to portray—by 1999, they embraced the identity and changed the official name to Underoath.

Underoath’s discography is represented through a large array of releases, including singles, eps, and many albums. Some fan favorites include albums like They’re Only Chasing Safety (2004), and Define the Great Line (2006), which also helped propel them to the front of their scene, combining emotionally charged lyrics with haunting melodies, and aggressive instrumentation, which helped them gain traction to critical acclaim, and gain the title of pioneering their genre.

As their career has progressed, Underoath continued to push boundaries with their following albums Lost in the Sound of Separation (2008) and Ø (Disambiguation) (2010), which helped them to experiment with their sound while keeping the same raw intensity from their previous works.

Following their “Disambiguation Era”, the band went on somewhat of a hiatus, focusing on other personal projects, and other endeavors—however it was great news to hear that they would reunite in 2015. Their following album Erase Me (2018) released 8 years after their previous and was a success, set up a new chapter for the band and reaffirmed their relevance.

Throughout Underoath’s career, they have been able to share the stage with many big names in the rock and metal industry, with bands like A Day to Remember, Bring Me the Horizon, and Taking Back Sunday—and their captivating performances have blown audiences away in venues like Madison Square Garden, the O2 Arena as well as Wembley Arena.

As of most recent, Underoath has released a digital concert entitled UNDEROATH VOYEURIST | Digital Ghost (2023), where they played their most recent album Voyeurist (2022) in full. The band is currently preparing for a tour to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of their 2004 album They’re Only Chasing Safety.
