Hey Friends!

Terrie Carr here and let’s face it- New Jersey loves Shinedown! As we prepare for their upcoming show this Sunday night at The Prudential Center with Papa Roach and Spiritbox, I remember where I was when I first met the band, how we first heard about the band, and the WDHA history with a band that has grown and evolved as our listeners have.

Back in 2003, my friend Jon from Atlantic Records came to visit and tell me about a new band that the label had signed. “They Are Amazing”- “A Skynyrd vibe, with great songs and a heavy feel like the bands coming out now”.

I heard “Fly From The Inside” and I was HOOKED! He also told me they were incredibly driven, great people, and the first time I met them I could totally tell. Shinedown was a band that instantly connected with our listeners. Everyone wanted to know about them, hear them, and see them live.

My first experience with them was when they came to one of my live broadcasts to play, meet listeners, and eat Barbecue! Me and Matt Murray still talk about it (read about it below!)
Since that day they have also become friends, especially Brent Smith who has never forgotten his early Jersey roots with the fans.

The band has put out seven studio albums, has multi-platinum status, has won countless awards, and has broken the record for the most #1 Singles in the history of the Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart.

It’s been an amazing journey for sure. I went through some of our WDHA archives (we have pretty deep archives after almost fifty years) and grabbed some fun photo memories from mostly my personal collection (and the station too) to remind us of some of the incredible moments we have shared together with our friends from Jacksonville, Florida.

The band returns to New Jersey Sunday night as part of their “Revolutions Live” Tour- To make new memories with diehard fans and a new generation of fans.

Thanks, Boys, for twenty years of amazing rock and great times…..

  • 20 Years Ago At Pop's BBQ In Madison

    Shinedown 2003

The first time TC and Matt met Brent and the band was in 2003- When they played Pop’s BBQ for some hungry fans!

WDHA had just started playing Shinedown when the band inquired about coming to the station to perform in the studio. The day they were available Terrie Carr was doing a lunchtime broadcast at a local BBQ joint. The band was happy to show up there and show listeners what they could do! The band performed four songs including “45” and “Simple Man” and listeners to this day will never forget that amazing experience! Small room, killer new band, and BBQ- what a memory!

Twenty years ago the band (and the rest of us!) were so young! Who could have predicted that Shinedown would become one of the biggest bands around…….Well, New Jersey always knew!

  • Hanging With Curtis

Brent with Me and Curtis- 2010

I have always loved this photo- Me and my brother Curtis Kay catching up with our friend Brent Smith and talking music, friends, and more backstage at The Wellmont.  Such a wonderful memory.  The band brought it for the fans that night with a fantastic semi-plugged Wellmont show helping WDHA celebrate the holidays. We did a food drive, a live broadcast- It was amazing.

  • Shinedown Onstage At The Wellmont

Shinedown’s “almost acoustic” WDHA show at The Wellmont in 2010 was such an incredible night. Sold out crowd, impeccable sound, and one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen from the band. Something was in the air!

  • Who Remembers the "Carnival Of Madness" Tour?! I Do!

    Carnival

Brent and Barry ready to take the stage at the “Carnival Of Madness” at the PNC Bank Arts Center

I caught up with the band on the “Carnival Of Madness” tour in 2010 in this photo- I remember PNC was boiling hot that day and the band was kind enough to lend me their air-conditioned tour bus to hang in and record our interview- What a blast!

  • Shinedown Rocks The Park At PNC!
