When you scour the internet, you can find some really cool stuff. Heck, just messing around on YouTube, you can stumble upon cool band interviews, live performances, cute dog vids, and of course mashups! I thought we could take a look at The Best Mashups of New Jersey Rockers!
Why are mashups so appealing? I think it’s because unless you work on them yourself, you can be almost baffled by how someone figured out that a song can line up with another song and fit really well. It’s almost like, “Hey, why didn’t I think of that.”
Plus, they can be funny. Hearing a hard-rocking band mixed with say, an old crooner is pretty odd. But when it works, it works! And that’s when it becomes not just funny, but also something you want to listen to.
As for what makes a good mashup, I think that’s up for debate. Is it when you take the riff of one song and just add the vocals of another? Or maybe it’s taking 3 or 4 parts from various songs and layering them so it sounds like one seamless track? I think as long as it works and it sounds appealing, it’s pretty cool and fun to hear.
I’m always blown away by the genre-crossing. It’s one thing to have the music track from one band underneath the vocals from another rock band. But when you have a hit song from Pearl Jam playing underneath, something like Eminem rapping, that’s where it gets really interesting!
There are so many great mashups, with the DJs who create these sometimes even gaining recognition. But what about if we focus on the Garden State. Forget West Coast bands…..or those from across the ocean. I wanted to show off some great artists from Jersey.
So let’s take a look at some of The best mashups of New Jersey Rockers!
