Atlantic City volunteers Kim and Jerry Goldberg brought their own buckets and gloves to minimize our plastic footprint.

Clean Ocean Action is calling on all beach-goers to “Fall into Action” on Saturday, October 22 for the Fall Beach Sweeps.

Volunteers are urged to gather from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm to help reduce marine debris at a record 80 beaches and waterways along the Jersey Shore and beyond.

Twice yearly, volunteers remove litter which makes beaches safer for marine life and more enjoyable for people, while also contributing the all-important data. The data from the Beach Sweeps turns a one-day event into a legacy of information to improve public awareness, change wasteful habits, enforce litter laws and improve policies to reduce sources of marine debris.

“This is a great way for volunteers, small and tall, to give back to the ocean and beaches, which give us such joy, beauty, and economic vitality all year,” said Cindy Zipf, Clean Ocean Action.

The biannual program Beach Sweeps unites volunteers of all ages to spend the morning collecting and tabulating debris removed from shorelines from Bergen to Cape May Counties. Beach Captains will manage each location and help supply and train volunteers for the important tasks of the day.

“We are so grateful to these true-blue heroes of the Beach Sweeps, who connect all the drops and make the statewide event possible,” said Toni Groet, COA’s South Jersey Coordinator.
